Prologue

This is my first attempt at writing fiction.

I initially saw the world through fiction, which helped me build my imagination, creativity and ambition.

Later, my environment revolved around Math, Technology and Business, so my content naturally became centred around that.

This is the story of a horse—Sunny, who went through different experiences and challenges and finally found his freedom.

If you could feel a little bit of yourself within Sunny, that’s because this story is derived from real-world experiences.

Any coincidence to the real world may be intentional :P

Chapter 1: First taste

Once upon a time, in a village far, far away, there lived a farmer who bought a new foal.

The farmer had a small but beautiful farm with several chickens, cows, and goats. Although his burdens had overworked him all his life, he cared deeply for his farm.

The young foal, with shiny brown fur and curious eyes, ran around the farm excited to meet his new friends.

The barn was filled with the warm scent of hay and the soft sounds of chickens clucking as he pranced excitedly.

The farmer named the foal Sunny because his bright eyes shone like a blazing sun.

One day, when the farmer fed Sunny and his friends, he felt very low and talked to the animals about his woes.

Sunny noticed the sadness in the farmer's eyes. He felt a sudden spark of courage.

He kicked off with his hind legs, leapt over the feeding tray, and circled the farmer affectionately, letting out an adorable ‘Neighhhhhh.’

The farmer was amused by the foals' actions and started laughing in amazement. He patted Sunny on the back and went back home laughing.

Something struck on Sunny’s little mind, he got the first taste of his purpose - Making people happy!

He instantly thought about ideas for new tricks to make the farmer laugh tomorrow. He slept thinking about seeing the farmer happy again.

Chapter 2: But Why?

As the years went by, Sunny grew into a full-grown Horse. He grew stronger and ran with great speed. During this time, he learned many tricks to make the farmer happy.

It became a regular thing: after dinner, the farmer and his family would come and sit in the grass, and Sunny would show different tricks involving jumping, running, and making different sounds.

His tricks became so popular that neighbours began visiting to watch.

Sunny enjoyed adding surprise elements to each show, making the show unique.

One day, the farmer's friend visited—a man in worn clothes, his face lined with hardship and cold indifference.

Sunny was excited to perform his tricks for the new visitor. When evening came, Sunny did his show, with an added twist, which he had prepared all afternoon.

After the show, the frowny guest, sipping his wine, barely glanced at Sunny and asked the farmer.

“He is good at jumping and running, why haven’t you enrolled him in any racing competitions yet?”

“A cow gives milk, and a chicken lays eggs, what value does your horse bring besides jumping around aimlessly?”

“My friend Sharma has a horse younger than yours, he is already making money by doing races and I think yours would get better money!”

Those three sentences changed everything for Sunny and the farmer.

This was the first time Sunny felt rejected in his life. Even though he did an honest and intensive show, the new guest seemed indifferent, and his master’s eyes seemed even sadder.

Sunny was sad, angry and anxious at the same time. His mind was overflowing with questions.

What did I do wrong?

Why does the farmer seem sadder?

Why didn’t the frowny guest even look at me?

The farmer had never thought about entering his horse for a race before.

He looked around his farm, which he loved very much.

Even though the farmer worked hard all his life, he was getting old and tired and could not keep supporting the farm for a long time.

The frowny guest gulped the wineglass empty and continued,

“I work at a good horse racing center, they provide vigorous but effective training to be a top racing horse.

“Once training is complete, they let Sunny in racing competitions and will send you a hefty share of the winnings”

“Its for the good of the farm, be practical”

The guest left shortly, reminding the farmer again about the bright future. He said to the farmer

“I care about you and don’t want to see your family suffer. Sunny will bring great money and fame to the family,

You can finally take a break, or you’ll end up like me — worn out and working into your 60s”

Thus, a random dude ignited a storm in the minds of Sunny and the farmer and left.

That night, Sunny fell asleep feeling bad about himself, thinking, “Tomorrow, I will try even harder to make them happy.”

Chapter 3: Fear is a Universal Language

The Next day, the farmer spent the entire day with Sunny, giving him his favourite fodder. The farmer had to walk a few miles extra to get it, so Sunny got this fodder only on rare occasions.

Sunny was on cloud nine and forgot all about yesterday’s events. He chewed his favourite food, neighing in happiness! He pranced around in excitement along with his master, and they laughed together!

At the end of the day, Sunny did his show. He performed his best and most daring show yet to make the farmer happy.

When the show ended, he saw the farmer running toward him, tears streaming down his face. He hugged Sunny’s neck and whispered.

“I’m sorry my dear Sunny, They will take good care of you there! You will be a Star!!”

Sunny was confused by the mix of emotions.

His master had been happy earlier, so why was he crying now?

Sunny couldn’t sleep that day. He kept blaming himself for the Master's unhappy state. He remembered the nights when the farmer would sit by his side, stroking his mane and telling him stories in his soothing voice and calm aura.

The farmer sat on the porch that night, staring at the stars. His heart ached at the thought of losing Sunny, but he couldn’t ignore the mounting debts and his aching joints.

The next day, early morning,
just as Sunny had woken up from a disrupted sleep, the frowny guest arrived again.

He caught the rope around Sunny’s neck firmly and said,

“I will make you the best racing horse ever! For that, I need you to obey and behave! Meet your new master!”

That was the first time Sunny experienced a sudden Swish of a whip followed by a strong pain sensation in his back.

Sunny groaned in pain, his body tense and his mind frozen. His tail flicked nervously, ears pinned back in confusion.

More than the pain, he was confused and a tad bit curious.

“Why is the frowny guest hurting me?”

“What does he want?”

“Why is he not happy?”

The farmer tightly clenched his eyes, unable to witness Sunny's pain, and screamed to stop hurting Sunny.

The frowny guest, his face emotionless, pretended to console him,

“This is not a whip, this is fear, and fear is a universal language.

Horses only understand one thing — fear. That’s why I train them to obey and win.”
